Hashemabad Cotton Research Station
The Hashemabad Cotton Research Station is one of the well-known cotton breeding research stations in Iran due to its considerable contribution to releasing high yield varieties. This station was established in 1977. It is located at 5 km Northwest of Gorgan city with 49 ha of cultivation area Silty Clay Loam soil texture which is located at 54º 21֝ 31֞ Eastern Longitude and 36º 52֝ 40֞ Northern Latitude.
Several experiments on breeding and agronomical aspects of cotton are carrying out annually. The breeding and seed multiplication of varieties have been done at the station. The breeders at the station are trying to develop lines and to produce hybrids with greater stability and higher tolerance to harsh abiotic conditions prevailing in the region. The best methods of IPM in controling pests, diseases and weeds, irrigation and agronomical management are also studied. Improving crop productivity and yield per unit of inputs is one of the princicpal aims of the researchers.
